A hope deficit.

One of the biggest contributors to global poverty is the lack of access to education.

At the Faykus Foundation, we believe that “to whom much is given, much is required” (Luke 12:48).

Every year, 9 million people around the world die of hunger...(and the number is expected to double during the pandemic).

Impoverished Americans live 7-8 years less than those who have incomes 4 or more times the federal poverty level, while pregnant women and children die from preventable diseases.

The United States has only 5% of the world's population, yet it incarcerates 25% of the world's prisoners.

In 2015, the number of illiterate adults reached nearly three quarters of a billion people.

Arts and enrichment programs for children have been drastically cut in recent years. 97% of elementary schools in the U.S. currently don't offer dance, and 96% of schools don't offer theater.

In the U.S., between 1985 and 2015, the average tuition for 4-year institutions has increased more than 300%, exacerbating the already considerable disadvantage for underprivileged students.

We also believe that generosity can be shown in many forms, including gifts of time, talent, and treasure.

When combined with the efforts of others, the gifts can have even greater impact and inspiration.

Together, we can transform the future and close the hope deficit by nurturing our youth, loving and supporting those less fortunate, and serving the needs of our communities!

Poverty significantly affects food decisions, which consequently have a significant public health impact.

Over 38 Million

or 12% of all Americans, lived below the federal poverty line in 2018. 15 million of those were children. Children in poverty are the most at risk of malnutrition, sickness, and increased risk of life-threatening diseases due to inadequate access to healthy foods.

By 4th grade, African American, Latino, and poor students of all races are

2 years behind

wealthier, predominantly white peers in all areas of education, but especially in stimulating arts and enrichment programs. By 8th grade, they have slipped 3 years behind, and by 12th grade, 4 years behind.

This achievement gap is due to poverty in their communities, early and unfair incarceration of themselves and/or family members, and lack of educational opportunities.

Americans with 4-year college degrees made

98% more per hour

on average in 2013 than people without a degree. That’s up from 89% only 5 years earlier. An increase in access to higher education could curtail poverty issues!

If obesity trends were lowered by only 5 percent, millions of Americans could be spared serious health problems,

Arts and culture are essential for building community development, nurturing health, mental wellness, and contributing to economic opportunity. In disadvantaged communities, the arts are an essential tool to help strengthen a sense of identity, heal trauma, and foster a shared vision for improving the overall community. A survey by Americans for the Arts found that the nation’s arts and culture sector received about

to invest in 2010, which ended up generating 4.13 million full-time jobs, which then led to over $22 BILLION in revenue.
